“What we crave, is the numbing of the thing that we don’t want to feel”. From the Netflix movie “To The Bone”. One of the things I treasure most from my girls’ childhoods: Our conversations…Learning how to Actually hear what they’re saying and understand that they don’t always want a solution or advice, has been an ongoing process for me….Sometimes, they just…want….to….be…..heard…..to know that someone they care about….cares about what’s on their mind….without there needing to be anymore to it….It’s been worth Learning how…to support them in this way..#FreeAfrikanTeenGoddess sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled

As a Refined Food Addict and Overeater in Recovery, and an Afrikan woman diagnosed w/ several mental illnesses (PTSD, Anxiety, Bi-polar Disorder and Depression), I’m grateful something like Mental Health Awareness Month exists (May)…The first pic is from over 20 yrs ago…I was nearing 250lbs on a 5’6 frame, unhappy, battling Refined Food Addiction, Overeating and symptoms of the above Diagnoses…The 2nd pic is from this year…Now eating SOFAS Free (Salt Oil Flour Alcohol Sugar Free) Whole Food Plant Exclusive since the beginning of last year, Successfully dropping the last 64lbs necessary in less than 8 months (without an exercise routine involved), Sustainably keeping it off for over 9 months, and receiving therapy, gratefully, I’m alot happier, have heaps more energy and Prioritize my Self-Care, which all assists me with being a better me and more present parent…It’s important I remind myself, No matter how much it may feel like it, I.Am.Not.Alone….and I refuse to stay quiet due to others being uncomfortable around these topics because I want others to know, You.Are.Not.Alone…We got this and I Love You..Here’s to our health, Divine Self-Care and our Family’s Freedom For free assistance, crisis counseling and more, Go to NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) online (www.nami.org) or call them: 800-950-6264 M-F 10am-8pm EST or text “NAMI” to 741741 Anytime, for Crisis counseling Refrain from any kind of opinions or religious advice on this post, I’m under the competent care of health professionals. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth#foreverunschooled
Even after being on this Unschooling journey for over 10 years, I’m consistently reminded I still have Sooo much work to do surrounding conditioning, programming, still so much Deschooling to do…recently gifted my youngest an early graduation present of her first car and I’ve been finding so much conditioning popping up within me that I have to work through for the betterment of our relationship..So, I continue to take a lot of deep breaths, be Super gentle w/ myself, Prioritize my Self-Care and encourage myself to pause before speaking/acting and Actually think through the consequences of my words/actions on her self-esteem and confidence…though there are days when this work is not easy, I’m grateful to discover…our family deserves this Effort and it’s beyond Worth it…#FreeAfrikanTeenGoddess sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled
One day I was on a phone call w/ one of my parents and shared some personal good news w/ them..once I was done, they immediately went into a space of telling me to be careful because of this and that bad thing that could happen…I paused, reminding myself not to feel disappointed that they didn’t just immediately Celebrate the good news w/ me…and while we continued to talk, a light bulb came on: I’ve done this to my own children as well…and I made a mental note to work on this within myself for the sake of my children’s ability to Trust the decisions they’re making for themselves..instead of doubting themselves because I projected doubt when they share their news, and life with me…I’m grateful Unschooling encourages this kind of thought analysis and self-reflection…#FreeAfrikanTeenGoddess sure looks good on her…Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled (Pic is of the youngest feeling proud of an accomplishment of hers)
