Sometimes a day in our lives as Unschoolers, can look like…lessons she wants to take…whether it be Snowboarding, Skiing, Horseback riding, Archery, Parkour, Djing, Scuba Diving, Afrikan Dance…and the list goes on…It’s been a privilege to observe where their hearts lead them…and a privilege to be able to figure out how to assist in facilitating these journeys…#FreeAfrikanChild sure looks good on her…Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled
When it comes to this Unschooling journey we’ve been on for over 10 years, one thing I’m most grateful for: Learning how to Allow my children to..just..Be…as a result, I’ve gotten a chance to see the many ways that action can manifest itself..2 Sundays ago, made 18 years since my youngest blessed me w/ the privilege to be the vessel she came through..I continue to sit at her feet as she teaches me..Warrior Goddess and Entrepreneur Extraordinaire that she is, it’s no surprise that in addition to celebrating her Bornday, she Officially had her new company, Kouture Kits, go Live…As I reminisce on the first time she wrote a book and went into business for herself when she was 7yrs old, over the last year, it’s been Liberating to watch her put her 2nd company together, this time, from scratch…from designing her own logos, to doing the math for her overhead vs profit, to putting her own website and marketing plan together..never mind volunteering at the animal hospital as she prepares to become a Veterinarian, applying, getting into and receiving full rides at all colleges she deemed acceptable, completing her senior year classes she picked out herself, teaching herself how to do all sorts of hairstyles (she did the dye job in the pic) and coping in a pandemic, I look forward to continuing to watch her grow…Happy 18th BorndayAnd Run, don’t walk, to get Your Kouture Kits Today: Https://kouturekits.com
I’M SO EXCITED!!NEW Video Out, of a poetic jazz experience called “Smile” by Konshens Themc and I’m featured in it You’ll see my Smiling face between the 35 second and 37 second mark (Click here to watch)..what I know is no coincidence: when Konshens put out the word last summer for these Smile pics, I was just starting to process a Major Heartbreak I’d caused myself (because I’m not a victim) and had just returned from watching the sunrise over the bay to assist in healing my heart..I’d snapped a pic of my peaceful smile as I sat out there that morning..so no surprise to me that at the exact moment my Smiling pic is about to pop up in this video, Konshens is saying – “Smiles be brighter than the Sun..or even a sign from the universe saying…Nah, I’m not done”..In spite of the pain I was going through at that time, I’m grateful I knew it didn’t mean the end of my world…Divine timing, Divine order..big thanks to Konshens for including me..I smiled the Entire time I watched this and appreciate the reminder at the end: Have you Smiled Today?

As I reflect on the Freedom of speech and Body Autonomy we’ve grown to appreciate in our Family over the years, I can’t help but to be grateful…watching her grow into a Self-Assured young adult, as she’s been able to express herself freely, do what she’s desired with her hair, wear the clothes she’s desired, etc., makes how uncomfortable this ride has felt sometimes, as I’ve fought to break free of conditioning I grew up with, Worth it..#FreeAfrikanChild sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom..#ForeverUnschooled

Sometimes, this is what a day in the life of us Unschoolers look like…my 17 yr old wanted us to dress alike on an outing we had to get new hats..so she gave me a pair of her stacked sweatpants to wear…something that could seem so insignificant, meant the world to her…I’m grateful I had the opportunity to be a good sport…and happy, that at 17, she’s not to “cool” to think kickin’ it w/ Mom…is corny..at least not on this particular day..#FreeAfrikanChild sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom..#ForeverUnschooled

After being on this Unschooling journey for the last 10 yrs, here’s what I wish I knew when our family 1st became Unschoolers: the Journey evolves and Deschooling is a lifelong process…I wasn’t realistic about how long I’d been conditioned to thinking a certain way in regards to what education looked like..sometimes it creeps up on me..and I’ve had to make a choice: stay stuck in ways that haven’t been positively benefiting our family..or try something different..Feeling grateful to continue being open to trying something different..the pics are of my 17 yr old doing something she’s passionate about – working w/ animals and teaching others what she’s learned along her journey thus far..#FreeAfrikanChild sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom..#ForeverUnschooled
As a Single Mom diagnosed w/ mental illnesses (PTSD, Bipolar, Anxiety and Depression) back in 2017, but experiencing symptoms for over 20 yrs, this Unschooling journey over the last 10 yrs has been…quite a ride…unfortunately my children have not escaped unscathed…there is much trauma I’ve administered to them, that I cannot undo..I’ve apologized and continue to work to repair our relationships and do my best not to allow myself to become consumed w/ guilt…because I’ve been learning..that doesn’t help..at..all..it was that consumption that led to a nervous breakdown and a 2 week stay in a psychiatric unit..one of the most important things I was reminded of while I was there: prioritize My self-care..Unapologetically..as I continue to clarify what that looks like for me, I’m grateful for understanding…there’s no reason to feel ashamed..plenty of us go through..Transparency…is saving my life and I’m happy to discover, therapy has been assisting in major ways..I’m grateful I got help when I did..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom…#ForeverUnschooled If interested, find a therapist @ www.psychologytoday.com
