Yesterday was World Mental Health Day and I celebrated it by just….taking it easy. As a Refined Food Addict and Overeater in Recovery and Unschool/Homeschool Single Mom diagnosed with Mental Illnesses PTSD, Anxiety, Bi-Polar Disorder and Depression, and experiencing symptoms of these for over 20 years, raising children, largely undiagnosed for about 22 of the 26 years I’ve been a Mom, has not been the easiest experience. Looking back, I remember spending sooo many years scared to go get help for the mental pain I was in, for fear I’d have my children taken away from me. I’m grateful for the series of events that led me to push past the fear and am now receiving Therapy and being a lot more Intentional about my Self-Care. The relationships I have w/ my children, now 25 and 18, have been improving exponentially as we repair bonds. Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled
As I prepare to pack this car up today and get on the road to drop off my youngest to her first year of college, I’m grateful for our last spontaneous #JustHerGetAway we embarked on last weekend. At the beginning of this year, together we started watching some episodes of Secrets of the Zoo, the Columbus Zoo/The Wilds edition. Like times past, I know she enjoys seeing education she’s into on the screen, come to Life. So we talked about actually visiting in person and though we’ve had a Whirlwind of a Spring and Summer, we Finally made the trip happen. I’m grateful to have been able to get in one last trip w/ her before she Officially becomes a College student. Of course, we had a blast. #FreeAfrikanTeenGoddess sure looks good on her….Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled

One of the things I treasure most from my girls’ childhoods: Our conversations…Learning how to Actually hear what they’re saying and understand that they don’t always want a solution or advice, has been an ongoing process for me….Sometimes, they just…want….to….be…..heard…..to know that someone they care about….cares about what’s on their mind….without there needing to be anymore to it….It’s been worth Learning how…to support them in this way..#FreeAfrikanTeenGoddess sure looks good on her..Here’s to our Family’s Freedom#ForeverUnschooled
